Lenten Wednesday evening discussions for 2011 (in English): 'The Way of the Spirit - Reflections on the Life in God'

On Wednesday evenings from 6.00 p.m. during Great Lent 2011, our parish is hosting a series of talks and discussions on the spiritual life, as drawn from the writings of Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra. These gatherings will take place from 6.00 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: 16th March, 23rd March, 30th March and 13th April 2011.

The language for these Wednesday Lenten gatherings is English. We begin with the small Compline service, followed by a light Lenten fasting meal. During the meal the lives of the saints of the day are read from the Synaxaria; and following the readings we begin our talk and discussion. Our theme for this Lent is 'The Way of the Spirit - Reflections on the Life in God', drawn from the title of the recently published English-language collection of several talks by Elder Aimilianos, founding Abbot of the community of the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra on Mount Athos. These talks will explore the nature of the Christian life, monastic spirituality, and Orthodox ascesis.

These evenings are open to everyone, of all ages, from any parish or from none, who would like to explore the life in Christ through the wisdom of a great teacher and spiritual father of our own day.
